Public Libraries should act as agents towards change and uplifment within their communities and the continual promotion of education, culture, re-creation, literacy and free access to information for all.
We strive to improve the quality of an educational life for all, to enable library authorities to deliver public library services to the entire community.
• Provide access to high quality services and promote resources for independent and formal learning.
• Promote opportunities for lifelong learning, entertainment and senior learning programs.
• Engage the community in development of the library.
• Provide a safe space that serves as an anchor for the community.
The City currently has 102 libraries, two satellite libraries and a mobile library service, that not only lend books but provide access to electronic resources and community events.
Public Library services the community and residents of Cape Town. Here community members can loan books and have access to computers, newspapers and a variety of other resources.
We also run a range of educational and fun programmes in all of our libraries.
